The past two days we’ve been continuing the training of Rocky.  SDWR sent Cheri back to continue to help us with Rocky. In case any of you don’t know what I’m talking about,  last year my family won a grant from Service Dogs by Warren Retrievers (SDWR), that enabled us to receive an autism service dog.  Part of their program is that they send a trainer to our house for two days a quarter to continue his training and help correct any issues we may have.

Well one of the issues we’ve had is Rocky jumping on people when they walk in the door.  And he/we have been having difficulty keeping him in a down (laying down) position and keeping him there.  But after two days he’s doing much better and we’re encouraged.

Now I know this is what Cheri does for a living,  but she always makes it seem so easy!  She had two other dogs with her as well, Dallas and Vixen and STILL managed to make it look easy.  But what I like about her is that she doesn’t make you feel like it’s your fault that the dog isn’t responding, even when she’s correcting you.

The Tot had a rocky start as yesterday he was really cranky but today was much better and he even participated in teaching Rocky to play hide and seek, which is actually training Rocky to track him when he runs off. (We’re going to teach Rocky to track Monkey Boy as well! )

All in all I think the training went very well and I’m once more encouraged and hopeful that maybe just maybe one thing in the universe has gone right for us.
